The Average Ruma Kowhai Student

Monday 10th June

Our STE(A)M today was about our bodies and our measurements (a secret Math Lesson) Who knew you could have so much fun doing maths!

Today we learnt about average. The average is the middle (or central). We lined up from the shortest (Denton) to the tallest (Dayiss) and found the middle person which was Harlem.
Our challenge today was to measure our body parts to find out our measurements. We used centimeters to find out:
Length of our face, Our necks, Arms, Hands, Feet, Legs, Head, Shoulders, Ear to ear, Neck to hips.

We recorded all of our measurements into a worksheet. Next Monday we will add our numbers up and divide by the number of people in our group to find the average… Then you will have to wait and see what we are going to do (it’s a surprise J)

The Digestive System

Today for STE(A)M we were looking at how the digestive system works.  Mrs C showed us by doing an experiment using crackers, orange juice and a banana.  Check out the video below to see how it is done.  It was really yucky but at the same time really cool and we learnt how our food is digested through the mouth, stomach and also the small and large intestine.

The funny side to school
